On the Importance of Customer Service: I am a firm believer that the time spent in a customer service role is never wasted. Spending long hours working with customers gives you a special perspective on human nature. You learn that there is an art to patience, kindness is worth the extra effort, and a well-timed laugh is worth more than gold. More than anything you begin to take a great deal of satisfaction in leaving the people you interact with a little bit happier every day. I will forever be proud of my customer service roots and the many hard-fought lessons they taught me. Please enjoy the following collection of my many customer focused roles. You are welcome to reach out anytime to learn more about my love for these jobs.
Cafe Manager (August 2023 - May 2025)
State College, PA
Webster's has never been just a cafe but rather it is a beloved community hub. The focus of this quirky underground shop is to bring people together, share kindness, and create safe space.
My time at Webster's was one of the most enjoyable and influential experiences of my life. I was proud to be a cherished member of the team. I had the honor to work both in the day-to-day operations and at our special events. These events include political activism, fundraising, music shows, community meetings and more.
At Webster's my job constantly evolved. While I simplify it to cafe manager on my resume in reality it spanned being a barista, baker, cook, caterer, graphic designer, web designer, hiring manager, procurement manager, and event coordinator.
"
Kay was able to think outside of the box, navigate front of the house seamlessly as back end operations and she was always raising the bar on what is possible.

Shift Manager (Summer of 2022)
Lakeside, OH
This community focused cafe is open seasonally on Lake Erie. Every summer at Coffee and Cream is filled with early mornings making coffee and late nights scooping ice cream. The days spent inside the shop were broken up by days spent serving the community.
Barista (November 2019 to September 2020)
Marysville, OH
This was my first barista job. At the time I joined the team this recently opened family run cafe was quickly becoming a local favorite. There was no shortages of morning rushes and late night munchy seekers. Even in the midst of COVID this cafe found ways to creatively connect with the community and stay afloat. At this job I focused on learning the art of barista-ing and learning to be a good co-worker. I unfortunately had to leave the role when the shifts began to compete with school activities.
My first day was immortalized by my sister's lovely portrait.
Customer Service Associate (Fall 2019 & 2020)
Marysville, OH
Cherry Hawk taught me the power of being calm in chaos. Despite being a small orchard it drew quite a crowd for honey crisp picking. It was a huge learning opportunity as I had to navigate crowd control, safety speeches, frustrated customers, and language barriers.
While my tenure at this position was only seasonal my history with this company runs deep. The wonderful couple who own this local u-pick apple orchard have been avid supporters of my baking and apple pressing hobbies since I was 9 years old. We first met when they kindly provided a bushel of apples for free so I could bake a blue ribbon pie at my local fair!

Her honesty and integrity are exceptional. For us and our orchard customers, she repeatedly "does the right thing'' and always pitches in to help whenever and wherever needed.
[...]
And she "goes the extra mile" (and leads by example for the other people working here.) She does things like answering the phone over and over again with just the right words during a tornado warning, and ensuring elderly customers who might not otherwise be able to enjoy our orchard can do so by letting them drive up close to the trees.

Kaylee's ability to understand, comply, enforce, and communicate to multicultural audiences has made us proud time after time. She is the type of person you only must "explain how'' to once. And she makes sure things are done the right way with an engaging attitude that makes people smile.
